Nelly's call for positivity after President Donald Trump's first 100 days in office has been met with strong criticism from fans.

Recall that the rapper received severe backlash earlier this year after he performed at Trump's Liberty Ball.

However, the rapper defended himself following the performance, stressing that he didn't accept the president's invitation for the money, but rather because he respects the office.

Nelly was busy at the weekend performing at the Stagecoach Festival.

Amid the festivities, Fox News Digital caught up with the rapper and asked about his thoughts on President Donald Trump's first 100 days helming the country's affairs.

Although Trump has been widely criticized for some of his policies since assuming office, Nelly chose to remain calm and stay positive.

He said, "I'm all for everybody staying positive about any and everything."

Nelly added, "I'm a glass half full type of guy. I’m more empowered by bringing people together and making sure that we all get what we need, when we need it and why we need it."

Fans Blast Nelly Over His Comments

After The Shade Room reposted a video of Nelly's chat with Fox News, several fans took turns slamming the rapper, with some asking him to refrain from speaking.

One person commented, "I liked Nelly better when he didn’t have this much airtime of the internet."

Another person pleaded with Nelly, "Please please stop talking."

A third person argued, "Staying positive and choosing to ignore what he's doing are not the same thing."

Someone stressed that Nelly is yet to be cancelled because of his wife, Ashanti. They wrote, "The only reason y'all giving Nelly grace is because of Ashanti."

Another person wrote, "Why are we asking Nelly what he thinks about anything?"

This is not the first time fans have criticized Nelly over President Donald Trump.

Ahead of the then-president-elect's inauguration in January, Nelly was blasted for accepting the invitation to perform at Trump's Liberty Ball.

Other rappers who shared in the criticism were Rick Ross, Soulja Boy, and Snoop Dogg, who also performed at Trump's other inauguration balls.

One fan called out the "Dilemma" crooner on X, writing, "I’m beyond disgusted at Nelly. I expect that clown tap dancing sh-t from Rick Ross and Soulja boy. But Nelly?!"

The fan continued, "Saying f-ck you to the black community by publicly supporting a man that makes it clear he doesn’t like us nor care about us is insane."

Another person wrote, "I had to unfollow Nelly, Ashanti, & Snoop all in one day. I don't support people who participate in or support Donald Trump in any way."

Nelly Responds To Criticism

Nelly addressed the criticism he received for performing at Donald Trump’s inaugural ball, during an interview with Willie D, in which he firmly distanced himself from political affiliations.

"I'm not a politician, man," Nelly explained. "You didn't see me out there on the campaign. You didn't see me out there saying you should vote for this candidate. But I'm honored to be out there performing for the Office, for the President of the United States."

He continued, "I'm not here to take up for Trump, I'm not here to take up for Republicans. I'm not here to take up for Democrats. This isn't about agreeing with Trump's political views. He's the president. He won. That's why I'm not telling you who to vote for. He's the President of the United States, not the candidate for the United States."

Nelly also made a point to separate performance from endorsement. "Performing for somebody and voting for somebody is two different things. Endorsing people is two different things."

Respect for the Presidency, Not the Politics

Addressing critics who questioned his intentions, Nelly clarified that his appearance at the event was about respecting the institution of the presidency.

"I respect the office. It don't matter who is in office," he said. "If they can put their life on the line for whoever is in office, I can damn sure perform for whoever is in office."

"Am I a Trump supporter? I support the Office. I support the President of the United States, regardless of who's in office. Regardless, I respect the Office."

Nelly's association with Trump stretches back decades. In his 2000 breakout hit "Country Grammar," he name-dropped the former businessman, rapping, "Bill Gates, Donald Trump, let me in now. Spend now, I got money to lend my friends now."
